Check it.

My awesome friend Arielle recruited me to do this for her PR firm. Basically, it’s a cartoon to celebrate the press surrounding the launch of this new wonder drug. Other than that, I can’t tell you much about it other than I think it looks pretty.

Putting that cat to sleep

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Stan Lee once said — and I’m paraphrasing here — that Spider-Man would get married only after there were no more stories to tell.

The wall-crawler’s had a ring on his finger for about 20 years.

When and if Spider-Man is “unmarried” will be the subject of a future column, but Lee’s initial reaction, before changing his mind, was right.

Hear that, Jim Davis?

If you’re one of the three people still following the adventures of Garfield, you’re probably aware that Garfield’s owner, Jon Arbuckle has finally become romantically attached to Dr. Liz Wilson, his long-time crush. Read the rest of this entry

Kanye West or 50 Cent?

That’s the conflict Universal Music Group is pushing. The two A-list rappers released new albums Tuesday, “Graduation” and “Curtis,” respectively. They faced off, literally, on the cover of Rolling Stone.

For me, it’s a no brainer — Kanye, all the way (he won the first day, according to Reuters, over 100,000 units ahead of 50). But even if 50 leaves me less than enthusiastic, I understand rap fans who had Sept. 11 circled on their calendar for months, waiting for two of the highest profile hip-hop albums of the year.

I did the same thing — the last time Sept. 11 fell on a Tuesday, in 2001.

Zac’s doube-page spread

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

This showed up in my inbox last night and I couldn’t help but share it. It’s Zac Crockett’s pencils for a double page spread in Anyone But Virginia #4. It’s not done, obviously, but I’m super happy with the energy and detail he’s given here… well, judge for yourself. Obviously this book is still a long way off, but enjoy!

Also, in other news, Rolling Stone has the new Counting Crows song streaming. It’s good. http://www.rollingstone.com/photos/gallery/16296997/fall_music_preview…

Just some quick updates…

Friday, September 7th, 2007

First and foremost, “Assholes” should be out in a matter of days. Not sure when I’ll start uploading pages, but that’ll probably be soon, too. I’m waiting on the script for #2 (hi, Mitch!), and the hope is to start that in the next couple months, trying to get that out by MoCCA of next year. (Of course, the goal is to release and really pimp a 72-page trade when we’re all done).

We’ll be having an Assholes release party, so stay tuned for more info on that…

Returning to Monkey Island

Friday, September 7th, 2007

Only Guybrush Threepwood can bring me back to video games.

I’ve basically had it — if I want to watch a movie, I’m going to watch a movie. If I want to play a game, I’m going to play a game. I don’t want some weird hybrid where I have to sit through hours of poorly translated exposition before I can start killing monsters (“Final Fantasy,” I’m looking at you).

I also don’t want to have to relearn controls and combos every time I plug in. Why should I be penalized for time away from the console when I’m out actually having a life?
Yes, this is the brilliance of the Nintendo Wii — quick party games that can be easily mastered and enjoyed with friends.

But there’s not much creative thinking going on — if you want to go bowling, go to a bowling alley.
